I started working with Arjun the summer before senior year, convinced my essay was finished because my English teacher had given it a 98. He told me, kindly, that nothing in it could only be about me. We cut the first two paragraphs and rebuilt it around my grandmother's weekly pill organizer, which I never would have considered essay material. He also caught that McCombs BHP requires a separate application with its own essay, two weeks before the deadline. I was admitted to BHP.

My practice scores sat at 1390 for three months before I started with Arjun. I scored a 1540 on the real test.

We spent almost a year at a tutoring center in Frisco and our daughter moved from 1240 to 1280. Arjun did a single diagnostic and found she was losing most of her points in the first math module, not on the difficult questions as we had assumed. Eleven sessions later she scored 1470. I only wish we had started with him.

Arjun helped me understand that getting into a school and getting into its computer science program are two separate problems. We built my list around that, and I was admitted to Grainger for CS.

Our son was automatically admitted to UT on class rank, and we assumed the hard part was over. Arjun explained that automatic admission does not guarantee a major, and that engineering reviews essays separately. We spent the fall on those essays. He was admitted to Electrical and Computer Engineering, while a classmate with the same rank and a higher SAT was placed in undeclared.

Worth it for anyone stuck in the 1300s. The pacing strategy alone was worth about sixty points for me.

I applied to eighteen schools, and every supplement felt like a new test. Arjun's rule was that every 'Why Us' essay has to name something you can only find at that school: a specific course, lab, or professor, not the location or the ranking. He marked sentences that 'could be any school' until I learned to catch them myself. I was admitted to Northwestern and Plan II, neither of which I thought was realistic.

Arjun had me rewrite my Why Rice essay three times, and the third version is the one that worked. I was admitted Early Decision. I am so grateful for how much time he put into it.

I was not excited about this at first. My parents signed me up after my PSAT. In our first session Arjun asked what I do outside school, and when I mentioned that I repair and resell old laptops, he said it was more compelling than anything on my activities list. That became my main essay. I also finished with a 1510, which I did not expect. If you are unsure about it, it is worth giving a real try.

After every session I received a short summary of what they covered and what our daughter needed to practice before the next one. As a working parent, that level of communication meant more to me than anything else.

I received UT Dallas's Academic Excellence Scholarship, which covers nearly all of my costs. Arjun helped me write the scholarship essay the same week it was due.

I came to Arjun nine days before the UT deadline without an essay started. He stayed calm, which helped me stay calm, and I submitted a day early.

A friend who was admitted to Rice recommended Arjun. My score went from 1210 to 1420 in about three months.

Arjun was honest with us from the very first call. He told us Stanford was not a realistic target for our daughter and suggested we focus on Vanderbilt and Rice instead. She is now at Vanderbilt and very happy there.

The first-module strategy made the biggest difference for me. I had been rushing the opening questions and missing two or three every time without realizing it.

I was admitted to Cornell Engineering through Early Decision. Arjun was patient through every draft, including the ones I sent late at night, and his feedback was always specific about what to change.
